CLEVELAND, Ohio — The weekly number of COVID-19 cases in Ohio decreased sharply this week, from 20,552 cases last week to 14,536 this week. It was the third week in a row that weekly cases dropped, and the lowest weekly total reported by the Ohio Department of Health since early May.

The state of Ohio each Thursday updates it’s COVID-19 dashboard.

Cases had been rising steadily since mid-June, peaking for the summer on July 28 at 29,876. The numbers began dropping in August, and continued to decrease until a spike in late August.

This week’s case total averages to about 2,076 cases per day over seven days.

Total reported COVID-19 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic were 39,767.

The total COVID-19 case count since early 2020 has now reached 3,131,645.

A total of 7,465,585 Ohioans have received at least one vaccination, representing about 67.4% of Ohioans age 5 and up.

Since the beginning of 2021, there have been 24,777 deaths among people reported as unvaccinated, and 1,369 among people reported to be fully vaccinated. And there have been 76,775 hospitalized Ohioans who were not fully vaccinated, and 5,660 fully vaccinated people hospitalized.

The state does not report for COVID-19 cases whether people were vaccinated.

The total cases being reported recently likely are understated, as some people do not report at-home tests and others may not be testing at all.
