The Concord Mills Police Department is at the Concord Mills Mall to provide an update to the public about what led up to an officer-involved shooting inside the mall. 

they ran from the officers and eventually fled back into the mall away from the officers. The officers pursued the suspects through them all. At the end of the foot pursuit, one of the three suspects produced a handgun at this point, both officers, one of the officers said over the radio that the suspect had a gun and both officers gave multiple commands to drop the weapon instead of complying the suspect with the gun fired a shot. At least one at one of the officers, the officers pursued the armed suspect into the construction area where the excuse me, the officer pursued the suspect into the construction area where he fired the shot, the bullet striking the ground just in front of the police officer. Both officers returned fire striking the suspect after the suspect was shot. Officers called E. M. S. And provided first aid. The suspect was flown to Atrium Maine Medical Center in charlotte in critical condition. The two other suspects who fled from the officers were later located outside the mall and have been taken into custody shortly after this incident happened. Chief Gacy asked the State Bureau of Investigation to handle the investigation into the officer involved shooting this incident frightened a lot of people at the mall and it's understandable that many people will have questions about what happened here today. The concord mills mall has policies and plans in place for a terrible situation like this and I want to give them credit for following those plans and helping with the early investigation. If anyone has cell phone, video or video footage of what they saw. we urge you to contact the State Bureau of Investigation at 980781 3000 and provide that information. There's a lot of investigation that will be done in the coming days and weeks by the State Bureau of Investigation. The Concord Police Department will be as transparent as the law allows. Will also ensuring that we aren't jeopardizing the State Bureau of Investigations process. Well, there isn't much more information that I can add right now. So the chase began outside the mall. The officers confronted the suspects outside the mall. A foot chase uh person. They engaged in a foot chase throughout the outside of the mall, the suspects ran in the mall threw them all into an area that's under construction for what looks like to be a new store. It all happened, it happened inside the mall but the exchange of gunshots happened inside a construction area, correct. Somebody called and said that their credit cards were stolen by three people in the mall. They provided a suspect description and also information of where they were like what are the ages? I don't have the ages on the suspects. Again, the State Bureau of Investigation is handling that part of the investigation. They're working through things that's early in the investigation. And we or the State Bureau of Investigation released that information when it becomes available. You have evidence that supports the three suspects that the suspects involved in the credit card. It's early in the investigation, but preliminary evidence indicates that yes, that's the same. It's early in the investigation. I know that one gun was found. I don't know how many guns were found. That's correct. They were male as far as I know, that's that's correct. One suspect fired a gun at the officers. How can people feel safe when they see incidents like this. As you know, there have been other high profile incidents here in the past. So the concord police departments subscribes to a community policing philosophy and part of that is high visibility. Um and so this off This this area has 24 officers assigned to this district. In addition to four sergeants and a captain crime statistics over the last several years and particularly this year. So once again a decrease in crime which is evidence that it's safe. Um One officer has been a member of the department for two years, one officer was in field training and has been a member for a couple of months. That would be a question for concord Mills Mall Management. I can't speak today. It's early in the investigation. That would be something that that would have to be determined at a later time. I'm meteorologist K Campbell in the wr severe weather center. Here's your weekend forecast looks pretty good. On Saturday, there is a small chance for rain. That would be first thing very early in the morning in our northern counties. The rest of the day looks pretty good, partly cloudy, mid to perhaps upper seventies. By Sunday, it's much cooler. Highs struggle to get into the sixties even. It's a cloudy day and we've got some scattered showers in the forecast Sunday, but we're on the stable side of the front. So we're not severe weather on Sunday and we really could use some rain. We'll get to that in a minute. Let's talk about your Saturday planner because that's going to be the day to be outside 63 at 8 a.m. by noon, 71 and will be in the mid to upper seventies during the afternoon. Still in the low to mid seventies by dinner time. Future cash shows pretty quiet, start to the day. Perhaps a few showers in our northern counties and cloud cover to start, but those clouds clear and we'll see more sunshine later on before we cloud back overnight into Sunday morning. Scattered showers are possible throughout the first part of the day, Sunday and then we'll see a band of steadier rain make its way in as we head into Sunday evening and perhaps Sunday night as well. Early on, we need any rain, we can get the drought monitor showing an expanded region for abnormally dry and yellow. That's the morning stage before you reach drought status. So we really need some rain to prevent drought from developing as we head into the month of May. The system that's bringing our rain chances for your Friday night is this area of low pressure along with a cold front draped to the south. That cold front is going to knock temperatures down as well. We're down to 46 degrees on Monday morning, 44 we had to lower the low Tuesday morning because there's not likely to be as much cloud cover and that's going to allow temperatures to fall even further. But for the weekend morning will wake up to temperatures near 60 Saturday morning and in the lower fifties again on Sunday morning. If you are running the Tar Heel 10 miler, we got some pretty nice weather for it. A 20% chance for rain for early on. Otherwise temperatures will be in the low to mid 60 s. Looks like some pretty good running weather for us. Looking ahead to next week, we're still on the cooler side start 66. But Monday trending more sunshine And then as we get into Tuesday, Wednesday, we're likely to be back in the seventies, Wednesday. We've got a cold front coming the way it looks now. Only a small 20% chance for rain with the front, but it is going to knock temperatures down again. Not as dramatic but low temperatures could be back in the upper forties with highs in the upper sixties to lower seventies toward the end of next week.
