Big Second Half Leads UW Over Seattle U

SEATTLE – Four second half goals helped the UW women's soccer team (5-0-1) secure the 5-1 win over Seattle U on Sunday afternoon at Husky Soccer Stadium.

With the win, the Huskies also secured their second consecutive WAC/101 Club Cup, which is awarded by the Washington Athletic Club.

Kala McDaniel got the scoring going in the 27th minute after receiving the pass from Kyla Ferry from the top of the box and sending it to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Seattle U tied it up at one in the 62nd minute.

The Huskies responded six minutes later as Karlee Stueckle off a defensive header rebound by the Redhawks in the box and sent it into the left corner of the goal just past the goalie.

Mary Johnston put the Huskies up by two after a couple of moves that weaved her through the Seattle U defenders. Three seconds later the Huskies added to their total on an own goal that hit off the head of a Redhawks defender, bringing the score to 4-1.

The final goal of the contest came in the 76th minute when Hailey Still had her third of the year off the foot of Summer Yates.

Seattle U had the chance to get closer when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 77th minute, but the attempt was stopped by Olivia Juarez, who just entered the match for Olivia Sekany.

Washington has now scored five goals in three of its first six games, for a total of 19 goals over that span while only allowing two.
