The Office of the New Jersey Attorney General on Tuesday released video from a fatal exchange of gunfire between police and a West New York resident that ended with the man’s death.

The fatal incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. June 3 when police responded to a 9-1-1 call involving a domestic dispute at a home on 59th Street in West New York, the state Office of the Attorney General said Tuesday.

Upon arriving at the Hudson County residence, uniformed officers approached the home and encountered Kevin Colindres, 32, of West New York, according to the office.

“Back up. Back the f--- up,” Colindres can be heard saying to officers from inside the closed front door, according to body camera footage.

Colindres then, “fired a weapon at the officers while standing in the vestibule of the home,” officials said.

One officer discharged his weapon and one officer sustained a non-fatal injury in this exchange, after which officers took cover, authorities said.

“I got hit,” one officer can be heard saying in body camera footage.

About 15 minutes after the initial incident, Colindres emerged from a neighboring door and ran down the sidewalk barefoot, wielding two firearms, according to surveillance footage released by the attorney general’s office.

An officer in pursuit discharged his firearm, fatally wounding Colindres. Officers and emergency medical personnel rendered first aid at the scene, but Colindres was pronounced deceased at Hackensack Meridian Palisades Medical Center later that night, authorities said.

Two guns were recovered near Colindres and one additional firearm was recovered on his person, officials said.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information was released Tuesday.
