Florida Highway Patrol traffic homicide investigators are asking body shops if they have repaired a 2014 or 2015 Jeep Wrangler with a color match of “Anvil” that may have struck and killed a 56-year-old Daytona Beach bicyclist on U.S. 92 Sunday night.

"Any mechanics or auto body shops that may have replaced or repaired a front right fender or passenger side mirror matching (the vehicle description) are asked to contact FHP," said FHP Lt. Tara Crescenzi on Tuesday.

The cyclist was struck at U.S 92 and Fourth Street at 8:39 p.m. Sunday.

Troopers said that the victim was riding his bicycle on the westbound grassy shoulder of U.S. 92, when the Jeep Wrangler, that was also traveling west, ran off the road and struck him.

The driver of the Jeep Wrangler sped away but a part from the vehicle broke off and fell at the crash site, troopers said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Florida Highway Patrol at 407-737-2213 or CRIMELINE AT 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
