Alonzo Burton Cochran, III passed away September 17, 2022, at his home peacefully during his afternoon nap. Al was born October 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland. His mother widowed shortly following his birth and later, while she was quarantined for TB, Al, or Burt as he was known at the time, spent several years at St. Vincent’s Male Orphan Asylum where he forged life-long friendships. He was hospitalized for several years with his own infection of polio. When reunited with his mother in high school, he was a member of the Calvert Hall College graduating class of 1954. His service in both the US Army National Guard and US Air Force brought fond recollections of Fort Indiantown Gap and Saudi Arabia. He continued with civil service, retiring from the Tracy Defense Depot in 1992. The USAF is what initially brought him west to Stead Air Attack Base in NV, where he met his beautiful wife, Janet Louise Frye, of 42 years. Al was formerly a member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites. Being a devout Catholic with a love of people and mischievous sense of humor, we joked he would be the perfect prison priest. He grew roses, fed stray cats and was the cornerstone of his family, neighborhood and many friendships. Al Cochran is survived by his daughter, Carrie Cardoza (Joe); grandchildren, John Rouse, William Cochran and Devin Cardoza; nephew/caregiver Todd Seaberry; three great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Cochran; son Alan Cochran; and step-son, David Rouse. Services will be held at Walton's Funerals & Cremations- Ross, Burke & Knobel, 2155 Kietzke Lane in Reno, NV on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Private burial will be at the Northern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, NV. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his honor to Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, PO Box 5099, Reno, NV 89513 to aid St. Vincent’s programs.
