The beautiful face of a mysterious medieval woman has been revealed for the first time in 700 years, after scientists used 3D digital reconstruction techniques to bring her back from the dead.
The unknown woman, who died in her 20s and was placed on a bed of seashells, was found during vault renovations at the ruined Whithorn Priory site in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, in the 1950s. Read the full story.
3. Nato backs Ukraine to retake annexed territory after Putin boasts its citizens are now his 'forever'
Nato backed Ukraine to retake the territory formally claimed by Vladimir Putin on Friday night after the Russian president held a lavish ceremony inside the Kremlin to celebrate its annexation.
Mr Putin pledged to use “all means” to defend four new territories that he declared part of Russia during a speech and patriotic concert in Moscow. Read the full story.
4. Iranian woman pictured dining without a headscarf thrown in Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe's old jail
Iran has arrested a young woman who defied morality police by eating in a restaurant without wearing a hijab, in an image that went viral on social media and inspired thousands of anti-regime protesters.
The photograph showed Donya Rad eating breakfast in a restaurant in Tehran, alongside a female friend who was also not wearing a headscarf. Read the full story.
5. Clean our rivers or face £250m fine, new Environment Secretary tells polluting water firms
Fines for water companies who seriously breach rules by dumping sewage in rivers and seas will be increased 1,000 fold, the new Environment Secretary has revealed.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Ranil Jayawardena said that the current upper limit of £250,000 per incident would be raised to £250 million. Read the full story.
