George Washington III decommits from Ohio State basketball's 2023 class

George Washington III was the first member of Ohio State men's basketball's 2023 class. The 2023 combo guard now has reopened his recruitment.

"First, would like to thank Coach (Chris) Holtmann and the entire coaching staff for believing in me," Washington wrote on Twitter. I would also like to thank Buckeye Nation and the entire OSU family for welcoming me into the community. However, at this time, after much thought, prayer and deep discussion with my family, I would like to announce that I'll be de-committing from The Ohio State University and reopening my recruitment.

"Thank you OSU for the opportunity and understanding — I will always love Buckeye Nation. I am excited to see what the future holds."

Washington was in Columbus this pas weekend along with Ohio State's 2023 class members Austin Parks, Scotty Middleton and Devin Royal, along with uncommitted four-star guard Taison Chatman and uncommitted four-star guard Bronny James.

A 6-2, 165-pound combo guard from Louisville Christian Academy, Washington is the No. 76 national recruit, the No. 2 player in Ohio and the No. 9 shooting guard in the nation according to the 247Sports.com composite database. Louisville, Tennessee, Auburn and Liberty are known to have also offered.

Originally from Texas, Washington and his family moved to Louisville following his freshman year at Austin St. Michael’s Catholic Academy. Washington then moved to Ohio play his final seasons of high school and AAU basketball.

Ohio State now has the No. 5 team in the country according to 247Sports behind Duke, Michigan State, Kentucky and Iowa State.
