AKRON, Ohio — A former United States Postal Service worker who pleaded guilty to delay or destruction of mail and theft of mail by a postal service employee received his sentence today in an Akron courtroom.
Bruce C. Murdock Jr. will spend six months in prison and was ordered to pay $8,346.96 in restitution and a $20,000 fine for his actions when he was employed by the United States Postal Service as an Operations Manager.
According to details revealed from the court case, Murdock was employed from February 2021 to April 2022 at the Massillon Post Office as a "West Area Post Office Operations Manager".
He removed parcels of mail from the mail stream prior to the scanning process which would have allowed them to be labeled lost had they not then been safely delivered to their intended destination.
During the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge John R. Adams told Murdoc that his "actions cast aspersions on all the good, hardworking thousands and thousands of postal employees around the country who try to do the right thing.”
USPS and detectives were unable to determine a total loss value or a total number of victims impacted during their investigations.
