Reza Teimouri was spotted as one of the “ordinary men” walking the runway for Malaysian fashion label Vestio Bespoke during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Kuala Lumpur this year.

Despite the short cameo at the end of the show, he is no model.

Photo: Reza TeimouriHailing from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, this well-dressed gent instead has an eye for menswear. His interest ensconced him in the tailoring trade, something that he has been dabbling in for years while working and studying in Turkiye.

For Teimouri, who is currently living in Malaysia, his goal is to eventually become a designer – with style being a huge passion of his.

He believes in the easy, breezy nature of fashion. Yet, as seen in his Instagram shots, he is very much a sharp and snappy dresser.

Teimouri plays with colours in creative ways and uses them to draw attention to his otherwise classic and timeless wardrobe choices.

Describe your everyday style. Based on your Instagram posts, is it safe to assume that you’re an all-out classic gent?

My personal style is actually a unique combination of multiple fashion categories – like classic, trendy or boho. The best way to describe it is simple, timeless and relatable. Simple because I love easy, light and airy outfits; timeless because I think that I can still wear this very same style 10 to 20 years from now; and relatable because I believe anyone at any age can be comfortable wearing my style.

What’s your view on trends? How do you navigate the constantly changing trends in fashion?

I think that you can’t escape trends, but also make sure to not be dominated by them. Fashion, to me, has always been dominated by trends, from low to high end, or the combination of both – leading to the high-low style, for example. While this is all well and good, the very nature of trends ensures that they will fall out of favour in time. For example, in 2021 (with the pandemic), we saw things shake up the men’s scene more than ever before. It’s good though, as we were given more options. These allowed for the more fashion-forward men to present themselves in fresh, new ways – and it’s about time.

Do you have any fashion don’ts when it comes to dressing?

Yes, I feel guys should always respect balance and colours when dressing up. In my opinion, matching colours is the most important point in fashion – especially when layering more than three or four pieces of clothing. I do feel strongly about guys who pair T-shirts or faded clothing, or even tennis shoes, with a formal suit. If you want a more dressed down look, do wear casual work loafers. Otherwise, stick to oxfords or formal shoes. Piling on too many accessories, even when wearing the appropriate clothing, looks sloppy, as well.

Give us a few tips on accessorising. How can men dress up their everyday look easily?

One of the best ways to make ourselves stand out in a crowd is to accessorise with bright colours and patterns, but it may not always bring you the type of attention you are looking for. As a standard, try to keep your accessories as subtle accents, and go for items that have very little texture. This philosophy will also serve you well when blending your accessories with other clothing, as it will tend to match more of your outfits. Take glasses, for example. They aren’t just for your eyes. Glasses, if in style and of a current design, are a very important part of your look. Remember to also get a great watch, plus rings. A watch for men, is like a piece of art. Not only that, you can express your personality at a glance with classic rings that match your outfits. Lastly, great shoes “make the man”. Shoes are the most important part in giving a good first impression, so make sure they are a quality pair and well looked after. I also feel that men should wear clothes that fit them. That said, I like to be comfortable, so I will wear anything that are of my style and aesthetic. I think that’s the surest way to feel confident. Ideally, I get my clothes tailored, so that they fit well, since I believe that this is the key to feeling great in your outfits. Don’t forget that details are key too. Small things matter. Like whether your shirt or T-shirt is tucked, half-tucked or untucked – or the way you roll your sleeves.

Who are some of the famous men you look up to when it comes to matters of fashion and how do they inspire you?

I think that Vincent Siow from Vestio Bespoke is one of the best designers. He is a friend that I met during my career. His style tips, like getting the right combination to work with the setting you’re in – that is whether it’s a formal dinner or a lazy Sunday gathering – gave me the courage to experiment with fashion. I am also inspired by fashion blogger Daniel Fox (@magic_fox on Instagram). He has a simple but special style, where he matches handcrafted jewellery and accessories to perfection. I think he has the best summer and autumn styles too. He is a figure who always reminds me that style is a personal rhythm and simplicity is the key to comfort.
