Residents of a Virginia town were ordered to shelter in place on Thursday as police try to find an 'armed and dangerous' man after he stole a police car during a domestic call and attempted to run two cops over. 

Police say Jerrod Celablee Brown, 34, also stole additional firearms from the police vehicle, fled on foot and is currently 'at-large.' 

They responded to a domestic call on Thursday morning that was described as 'calm,' and they currently do not know why Brown stole the car.

Reporters at the scene said they heard gunshots which they believe are from Brown, but they do not think he was shooting at anyone. 

Police have asked residents not to approach Brown as officers gather in the Southside of Pulaski to search for the fugitive.

'ALL RESIDENTS IN SOUTHSIDE SHOULD SHELTER IN PLACE. DO NOT APPROACH SUBJECT!!! CALL 911 IF YOU SEE ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS,' said the Pulaski Police Department on Facebook.

Brown has a long list of criminal offenses, starting with a charge for drunk driving in 2007. 

Other charges include trespassing, assault and other drug and alcohol offenses. 

The reporter added 'this is all taking place off of Valley Road in the town of Pulaski and police are urging everyone to avoid the area.' 

A police spokesperson said he is likely in the trail system of Draper Mountain, though they cannot be certain. 

The spokesperson indicated there are multiple agencies working on finding Brown. She said she could not confirm how many guns had been stolen, but knew of one.

Despite the alarming nature of the situation, the statement said 'This is just a precautionary measure and there are no actual issues inside any Pulaski County Public Schools buildings.'

They listed the school buildings ordered to shelter in place as Pulaski Elementary School, Critzer Elementary School, Dublin Elementary School, Pulaski County Middle School, Pulaski County High School and The School Board Office.
