Hindu girl crushes Quran recitation competition with fluent Arabic in Kerala
Parvathy, who speaks fluent Arabic, recently won a Quran recitation competition at the Thodannur sub-district arts festival in Kozhikode, Kerala. The fourth-grade student has been widely praised for learning the language at a young age. What makes her achievement more remarkable is the fact that she was born into a Hindu family.

Kerala: Parvathy, a fourth-grade student who speaks fluent Arabic, recently won a Quran recitation competition at the Thodannur sub-district arts festival in Kozhikode, Kerala.
Parvathy, who was born into a Hindu family, instantly became the poster girl of religious harmony when she began her recitation of The Quran - the holy book of Islam - with the Arabic phrase “Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem”, which translates to “In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious and The Most Merciful”
According to media reports, the class 4 student of Chemmarathur West LP School began learning Arabic back in first grade alongside her twin, Parvana, after sisters’ parents encouraged them to learn a new language.
Her father, Nalish Bobby, is an IT professional and her mother Dina Prabha, a teacher at a government school.
For all the praise that Parvathy received, however, a video of her impeccable Quran recitation has also been reportedly criticised by a few Islamic scholars in Kerala for being “un-Islamic”.
“Whose responsibility is secularism? Whose privilege is religion? Aren’t all those who rejected secularism happy with this child,” Dr Aravindakshan Karumat said in a video.
