Apple Creek Volunteer Fire Department holding auction, haystack supper

The Daily Record
Rex Raber and Apple Creek Fire Chief Jimmy Zimmerman are shown with Raber’s handcrafted, wooden, children’s toy firetruck cradle that was up for auction at the Apple Creek Fire Department’s biennial benefit auction and haystack supper in 2019. This year's auction is Nov. 11.

The Apple Creek Volunteer Fire Department will hold a benefit auction and haystack supper Friday, Nov. 11, at East Union Township Fire Station, 3400 S. Apple Creek Road, Apple Creek.

Chief Jim Zimmerman is excited to be able to hold the bi-annual event again after being forced to cancel last year when COVID numbers spiked.

Proceeds are used for essential fire and EMS equipment, and this year’s proceed will be designated specifically toward outfitting a new truck the department is expecting to be delivered late in 2023. The truck will need many pieces of equipment, including hoses, valves and other items.

The haystack dinner is prepared by churches under the direction of Eddie and Nettie Miller. Carry-out begins at 3:30 p.m. and dine-in at 4 p.m.

The auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. and include pieces of Amish-built furniture, power tools of all kinds, hand tools, special handmade items, gift certificates from local businesses, and much more.
