Trucker dies in three-vehicle crash on Malaga Road in Monroe
MONROE - A truck driver from Cumberland County was fatally injured in a three-vehicle crash, according to police.
The accident happened around 12:35 p.m. Thursday when a Hyundai Elantra left the westbound lane and struck an oncoming truck on the 900 block of East Malaga Road, according to a police account.
The truck, driven by 62-year-old Richard Lupton of Newport, then veered across the highway, hitting the driver's side of another westbound vehicle and striking a tree.
Lupton was pronounced dead at 1:50 p.m.
The Hyundai's driver, a 30-year-old Camden woman, was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, Camden, with a serious lower-body injury.
The third driver, a 27-year-old Millville woman, was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
The accident remains under investigation.
