Cleo L. Gentz, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. There will be no funeral service held. A private family committal service will take place at a later date, at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.
Cleo was born on Jan. 23, 1940, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Reuben Christian and Anna Belle (Smith) Gentz. He was raised on a farm in Monti, Buchanan County, Iowa. Cleo was a 1958 graduate of West Delaware High School in Manchester. At the age of 18, he purchased his first of two trucks to haul grain and livestock for his first career. Later, Cleo was employed with Link-Belt for several years, while also farming. On Oct. 26, 1974, Cleo was united in marriage to Gail (Hoyt) Sigmund in Cedar Rapids. Eventually, he became employed as a welder with Boilermakers, until Cleo retired in 2005. During his retirement, he enjoyed camping with Gail in Wisconsin. Cleo will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Cleo is survived and lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Colleen (Dan) Hammes of Newhall, Iowa, and Cindy (Mike) Mudd of Ely, Iowa; stepchildren, Lori Gichard of Shorewood, Wis., Jeff (Debra) Sigmund of Walford, Iowa, Mark Sigmund of Cody, Wyo., and Stacey (Rudy) Venegas of Tempe, Ariz.; six grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Don Gentz of Manchester, Phil (Norma) Gentz of Shellsburg and Reuben (Sue) Gentz of Merimac, Wis.; one sister, Patricia (Ken) Orsten of Wilmer, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gail; nephew, Silas Gentz; and one sister-in-law, Barbara Gentz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family to be designated later.
