2h agoNew Jersey’s black bear hunt has been temporarily suspended just days before the reinstated hunt was set to begin.
A judge made that decision on Wednesday after three animal rights groups took the issue to court.
They claim a loophole was used to reinstate the hunt.
State wildlife officials voted to reinstate the hunt earlier this month after releasing data that showed New Jersey’s bear population was increasing and that there were increased encounters with humans.
Gov. Phil Murphy had previously campaigned on ending the hunt, but the governor came out in support of reinstating the hunt after the data was released.
Both sides will now argue the issue in court to determine if the hunt will go on.
