Corning, Lansing fall short in semifinals at New York girls volleyball final four

Pursuits of state championships for the Corning and Lansing girls volleyball teams came to a close Saturday in the pool-play semifinals at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.

Corning dropped all six of its sets over three matches in Class AA. Lansing finished with a 1-5 record in Class C after taking its opening set. The Bobcats lost three sets by two points.

Corning finished with a 15-4 record and made its first appearance in the final four since 2016.

Lansing's season came to a close with a 21-0 record in regulation matches.

New York state semifinals results

Corning took on Section 2's Shenendehowa, Section 8's Massapequa and Section 6's Lancaster in Class AA matches Saturday. The Hawks lost to Shenendehowa 25-6, 25-16; Massapequa 25-18, 25-22; and Lancaster by scores of 25-13 and 25-21.

Shenendehowa (5-1) and Lancaster (4-2) earned spots in Sunday's noon championship match. Massapequa finished 3-3.

Lansing was a 25-23 winner over Section 2's Galway in its opening set, then lost by the same score in the teams' second set. Section 11's Port Jefferson beat Lansing, 25-23 and 26-24, and Section 6's Portville topped the Bobcats by scores of 25-16 and 25-13.

Portville (6-0) and Port Jefferson (4-2) advanced to Sunday's noon final. Galway also finished 1-5.
