A woman was hospitalized after she was shot by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy in Covina on Saturday morning, authorities said.
Deputies from San Dimas Sheriff’s Station were sent around 10:05 a.m. to the intersection of North Vincent Avenue and East Cypress Street on a report of a woman vandalizing vehicles in the area. The woman appeared to be in her 20s or 30s, Deputy Veronica Fantom said.
When deputies arrived, the woman was carrying a pipe wrench, which she apparently used to shatter a patrol vehicle’s rear window before “charging” at a deputy, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau later said.
A deputy then shot the woman, who was transported to a local hospital, where she was in “stable but critical” condition Saturday night.
There were no reports of injuries to deputies, and the pipe wrench was found at the scene.
