Brian Schlagel, 45, of Murrysville, is facing multiple charges

The owner of the Philly Pretzel Factory on William Penn Highway in Monroeville is accused of illegally selling prescription pain pills through the business’s drive-thru window.Brian Schlagel, 45, of Murrysville, was arraigned early Friday morning on multiple charges.Police said he was arrested Thursday in the Spitzer Toyota of Monroeville parking lot, where he allegedly purchased 240 oxycodone pills, worth about $14,000, from a person known to be involved in drug activity who was also arrested.Police said Schlagel buys pills and then sells them to multiple customers at an inflated price.Police said the investigation into Schlagel began in July and included an interview with one witness who described Schlagel as the biggest pill dealer in Export, according to the criminal complaint. As of Friday afternoon, Schlagel was being held in the Allegheny County Jail.Update on Monday 11/21:On Monday, the Philly Pretzel Factory corporate office shared the following statement with Pittsburgh's Action News 4:"As a result of the alleged illegal behavior and arrest of one of our franchisees, Philly Pretzel Factory is terminating its franchise relationship with Mr. Schlagel.His alleged acts are in direct violation of our franchise agreement. Mr. Schlagel independently owns and operates the Monroeville location, and his franchise rights to own and operate any Philly Pretzel Factory stores have been terminated. A transition plan for the ownership and operations of this location is currently in process.Please know we do not condone this type of behavior and pride ourselves on providing a safe environment for all our customers and team members.We remain shocked by this individual’s alleged behavior, stand by our zero-tolerance policy, and want to extend our deepest apologies to everyone impacted. We are fully cooperating with the local police department to assist in any way possible as they investigate this matter."
