SANTA CLARA – A pedestrian suffered major injuries after being hit by a driver Monday morning in Santa Clara, police said.

The collision was reported around 8:30 a.m. at Montague Expressway and Agnew Road, the Santa Clara Police Department said in a statement. The pedestrian, identified as a 22-year-old Santa Clara man, was taken to a hospital with major injuries.

Police said an investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking in a crosswalk against a traffic-control signal when he was hit by a driver traveling northbound on Montague Expressway.

The driver, identified as a 31-year-old San Jose woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

The investigation is continuing, but police said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
