HARBOR SPRINGS — This weekend, Harbor Springs will be keeping shops open late to ring in the holiday season and celebrate the city’s annual Merchant's Holiday Open House.

Bonnie Kulp, executive director of the Harbor Springs Chamber of Commerce, said Main Street will be closed from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 to celebrate the event.

“It's such a great opportunity for people to see friends and neighbors out and about,” Kulp said. “It's a great way just to see our businesses and see the community.”

Sponsored by the Nub’s Nob Ski Area, the Petoskey High School Steel Drum Band will be performing during the event and different businesses often have food and drinks available for customers to try while they shop.

Kulp said she’s interested to see how businesses will adjust their food and drink options following COVID-19 and maintaining practices that the merchants are comfortable with.

“I think that things have changed a little bit and allows the businesses a little more flexibility to do what they feel most comfortable doing,” she said.

The chamber will be open from 6-8 p.m. Saturday as well, selling small items and offering up holiday cookies and drinks, Kulp said.

“We would love to see the community stop in,” she said.
