Elderly woman struck by stray bullet while leaving Brooklyn grocery store

A 70-year-old woman walking out of a Brooklyn grocery store was hit with a stray bullet Monday.

The victim was walking out of Super Foodtown at the corner of Fulton St. and Tompkins Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant when a gunman fired off a shot around 2:20 p.m., police and witnesses said.

A witness said the gunman was aiming for someone across the street, but hit the woman instead.

“There was one gunshot, and a guy across the street dropped down to the ground and ran into the Popeyes,” recalled Sophia Williams.

The woman was shot once in the right thigh, cops said.

“She was just standing there holding her shopping cart,” said Williams. “She was in shock. She didn’t cry, not anything. Her whole leg was covered in blood.”

The shooter took off on a moped, police said.

Medics took the victim to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

“She was so brave,” Williams said of the victim.

Police are still searching for the gunman.
