Boots line has recently seen a surge of viral videos being posted on and many of which have shown empty shelves as customers have searched for the budget-friendly products in their local stores. Esthetician Monique, who posts reviews to her TikTok page @skinfiltrator, took to the app to find out whether the product was really "worth the hype" after caving to "peer pressure".

Monique managed to get her hands on Boots' Vitamin C Brightening Moisturising Cream, which promises "brighter looking skin within 14 days". Immediately, the skincare expert says she was shocked by the low price of the cream, which comes in at just £4.50 for a 500ml tub.

Monique said: "Straight off the bat, the price point is insane." Despite its budget cost, Monique highlighted some of the quality ingredients included in the cream. "It has nicinamide in there which is incredible," she said. "It has two types of C in there, one of which is a really stable formula - ethyl ascorbic acid. It has glycerin in there which is fantastic, and it also has antioxidants and it has vitamin E."

Nicinamide, also known as vitamin B3, is a water-soluble vitamin which has been found to minimise enlarged pores, soften fine lines and improve uneven skin tone.

Vitamin C has been found to brighten skin, reduce the appearance of under-eye bags and promote collagen production. Glycerin helps the skin retain moisture and relieves dryness, while vitamin E also has similar moisturising benefits as it creates a natural barrier.

However, Monique found that the cream did have a slight scent. "I don't like the fact it has fragrance in it but if you're not sensitive to fragrance it's all good," she said.

"Overall this is actually a really good cream. I'm going to give this a thumbs up, it feels good on my skin. I can see why this is so popular and so viral."Her review has amassed 36.9K likes and 341 comments, with many viewers leaving tales of their own experiences using the product.

A user named Rachel Tosin said: "It has done wonders for me like I can't believe it." [SIC] Another commenter, Junie, added: "I've been using this for a while and it's so good! But I noticed they reduced the size of the jar."

But for those who are sensitive to fragrance, the product could have some downsides. A customer named Soumia said: "Unfortunately it broke me out. Probably due to the fragrance, but I'm glad it worked for you." Hanna added: "Definitely broke me out because of the fragrance."

On the Boots' website, the brand explained: "This light texture Vitamin C moisturiser nourishes for radiant looking skin. With added Vitamin C and YUZU extract, this moisturising cream is suitable for all skin types." The product is best used after cleansing and applying serum and is suited to be used alongside other vitamin C products.

However, the company does advise people to be cautious if they notice any side effects from using the cream and to "discontinue use if a rash develops". The cream can be purchased both online and in-store, and currently has a 4.5 customer satisfaction rating on the boots website, as well as holding a winning title from The Boots Beauty Awards.

What are the benefits of vitamin C for the skin?

Vitamin C is a dermatologist-approved ingredient which has been found to slow early skin ageing, prevent sun damage and improve the appearance of wrinkles, dark circles and acne, according to research by Havard Health.

A 2017 study published by the National Library of Medicine showed that daily use of a vitamin C formulation for at least three months improved the appearance of fine and coarse wrinkles on the face and neck. The use of vitamin C was also found to boost overall skin texture and appearance.

However, experts from Harvard Health point out that it could produce negative results for those prone to skin sensitivity, or those who have oily or acne-prone skin.
