Hello everyone and welcome in to this MARCA In English Formula 1 live blog, where we'll bring you all the updates you need from this Saturday's Brazilian Grand Prix Sprint Qualifying.

This is the penultimate race of the 2022 Formula 1 season, in which Max Verstappen has already declared himself the drivers' champion, while Red Bull have already clinched the constructors' championship.

All the drivers still want to stand on the top step of the podium, though, and they'll have to navigate the sprint race as part of this weekend's mission.

A regular qualifying session was held on Friday night and Kevin Magnussen timed his runs well to set the fastest time, meaning he'll start at the front of the grid in this sprint race.

Then, there will be 24 laps of the Autódromo Jose Carlos Pace as drivers fight for world championship points and also set the starting order for Sunday's regular race.

It should be fun and we'll bring you all the updates you need. They follow on below, with the most recent nearest the top.

F1 Sprint Qualifying - 2022 Brazilian GP Sprint Qualifying

Russell takes the chequered flag!

It was all fairly easy for Russell in the end, as he crosses the line four seconds ahead of Sainz. Hamilton, Verstappen and Perez round out the top five, while Magnussen comes home eighth to claim a point for Haas.

Final Lap

Impressive showing from Russell

Russell looks to have this in the bag, with Sainz and Hamilton rounding out the top three. A strong showing by the Mercedes driver today. Verstappen is fourth ahead of Perez, who asks if he can be let past in his fight for second in the championship.

Lap 20

Sainz into second

Sainz squeezes past Verstappen into Turn 1 and they make contact, with the Dutchman's wing losing an end plate. Hamilton goes through as well, meaning it's Russell, Sainz and Hamilton with a few laps remaining.

Lap 16

Russell takes the lead!

Russell has finally found a way past at Turn 4 to take the lead! The battle has helped Sainz close the gap in third, but he has to worry about Hamilton behind him. Further back, Albon has spun and is out of the race.

Lap 14

Fierce battle for first

Russell has closed right up to the back of Verstappen and pulls alongside into Turn 4, but he can't make it stick despite attempts on back to back laps. The Red Bull driver manages to stay in front but Russell looks hell bent on finding a way past. This one isn't over.

Lap 7

Hamilton now fourth

The Mercedes man picks off Norris and Magnussen and is now fourth but is he in trouble. Stewards have noted him, Ricciardo and Zhou for a starting procedure infringement so we'll have to keep an eye out on that.

Lap 4

And now Verstappen leads!

It's only taken Verstappen a few laps to find a way past Magnussen, and he now leads. Russell follows soon after to take second, followed by Sainz, meaning the Haas driver is now fourth. They aren't the only ones making moves, with Hamilton slipping past Ocon for sixth.

Lap 1

Magnussen leads!

The Haas driver leads ahead of Verstappen and Russell, and crosses the line close to a second ahead. Somehow the two Alpines avoid touching each other further back and continue on in sixth and seventh.

It's almost time for the sprint race!

It's very nearly time to get going with this Saturday's spring race at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The drivers are on the grid and ready to embark on the formation lap.

Remembering Hamilton's 2021 sprint in Brazil

Lewis Hamilton put in an incredible performance in the sprint race in Brazil last year, starting 20th and then moving all the way up to fifth. That helped him as he went on to win that race.

Ocon is top in the second practice session

The sprint weekends have a very different structure and part of this is the second practice session coming after qualifying has already taken place. So, FP2 only just took place on Saturday afternoon and Esteban Ocon was the quickest.

The Brazilian GP sprint qualifying start time

This Saturday's race is due to start at 16:30 local time in Brazil. In western Europe, including pole-sitter Kevin Magnussen's Denmark, that's 20:30 CET, while it's 19:30 GMT in the UK or 14:30 ET / 11:30 PT in the USA.

It'll be interesting to see if Kevin Magnussen and his Haas can hold off Max Verstappen, who starts second in this sprint race.

Lewis Hamilton is down in eighth, but he won in Brazil last year by overtaking the entire field across the sprint race and the real race and he'll aim for something similar here, as he looks for his first win of 2022.

There are several other interesting storylines to follow in this penultimate race of the year and we'll have all the updates right here on this live blog so that you don't miss any of the important developments.

The race starts at 16:30 local time in Brazil, which is 20:30 CET in western Europe, 19:30 GMT in the UK or 14:30 ET / 11:30 PT in the USA.
