Investigators are looking into the death of an unidentified man whose body was found Thursday morning on the side of Mulholland Highway in Malibu.

The body was discovered about 7:45 a.m. in the 33000 block of Mulholland Highway, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. Firefighters attempted to treat the man when they arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s Department officials initially identified the body as a woman but by Thursday afternoon said the body was that of a man. The circumstances of the person’s death were still unclear.

The body did not show any obvious signs of trauma, officials said in a statement.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies were called late Friday night after the girl walked into a gas station asking for help.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau were called to the scene, as deputies and officers with the California Highway Patrol blocked off traffic on both sides of the two-lane highway that runs through the Santa Monica Mountains.

The highway was closed to traffic in both directions as officials investigated the scene. As of 4 p.m., CHP officials said the closure would continue for an unknown amount of time.
