A driver from Monrovia was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Thanksgiving day after he created a disturbance at a 7-Eleven store in Arcadia, then crashed his car through the doors.

There were no injuries.

The crash happened at the 7-Eleven at 1003 S. Baldwin Ave. shortly before 6:55 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 24.

The man first entered the store and threw merchandise at employees, according to Arcadia Police Sgt. Travis Sargent. Then he got into his car and intentionally drove toward the store, Sargent said.

“Witnesses reported the subject accelerated towards the front doors where employees and customers were standing,” he said in a statement.

The driver crashed through the front doors, then tried to flee, but was detained by employees and customers until police arrived, Sargent said.

Officers arrested Sterling Williamson, 23, on suspicion of attempted murder.

As of Friday, Williamson was being held at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles in lieu of $2 million bail. He is scheduled to appear Monday, Nov. 28, at Pasadena Superior Court for an arraignment.

Authorities asked that anyone with information call the Arcadia Police Department at 626-574-5151. Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
