GENESEE COUNTY, MI - The annual Flushing and Montrose Candlewalk traditions are set to continue this week.

On Thursday, Dec .1, hundreds of people are expected to flood Main Street from 6-9 p.m. The Flushing Candlewalk first began over 30 years ago and has grown into one of the county’s largest events.

The Candlewalk kicks off with a Parade of Lights that brings Santa into town to receive the key to the city, and then the official Christmas tree is lit.

After Santa arrives, he will sit in Goggins Hall visiting with children of all ages. There will be glowing candles lighting up the streets of Flushing, chestnuts roasting on an open fire in the middle of Main Street, and warming stations throughout the area.

Montrose

Santa Claus is coming to downtown Montrose on Saturday, Dec. 3. Due to an “unexpected roadblock” a Santa appearance won’t appear during the Candlewalk.

Santa traditionally arrived in Montrose either riding or escorted by a fire truck or driving his sleigh in a parade. The Montrose Candlewalk committee stated in a Facebook post that roadblocks prevented the parade from going forward.

Instead, thanks to Acorn & Company, Santa will be able to visit the children next door to Acorn at 120 State St. off of the intersections of Vienna Road and M-57 from 5-8 p.m.

Parents will be able to take photos to capture images and a photographer will also be available for those who want more photo options.

For more information, visit the Montrose Candlewalk Facebook page.
