LOCKLAND SCHOOLS HAD TO CLOSE ON FRIDAY BECAUSE SO MANY WERE SICK. >> WE HAVE ALWAYS SEEN SCHOOLS EVEN PRE-COVID-19 UNDERSTAND THAT IF YOU’RE SEEING AN OUTBREAK IN A SCHOOL OF FLU OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, THAT PAUSING CLASSES FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS GIVES PEOPLE TIME TO HEAL AND SLOW AS THE SPREAD OF AN ILLNESS WITHIN THE SCHOOL BUILDING. >> AND IT’S NOT ONLY SCHOOLS , IT’S EVERYWHERE. >> WELL, THE FLU IS COMING EARLY AND COMING HARD BECAUSE WE HAVEN’T HAD THE FLU FOR THE PAST 2 TO 3 YEARS. The combination punches of RSV, the flu and COVID-19 have knocked out classes at another school as the Talawanda district canceled classes Monday and Tuesday.It comes after Lockland Schools closed on Friday, with Thanksgiving less than a week away.In Kentucky, 30 districts have had to close at least one school over the past few weeks.“I've seen the numbers go up, and therefore I thought it was time for our family to get protected,” said Laurie Leon.Leon is a parent with a perspective most don’t have.“I teach sixth-grade science. So, we've had a lot of people. The numbers have jumped, and we've had five out in each class at a time, or more," Leon said.She took her two children to the Hamilton County Health Department COVID-19 booster clinic Monday.The clinic has been steady. They moved from the Board of Elections offices, nearby to an office space next to “Dress for Success.”“The doctors in our community, as well as the Centers for Disease Control, are recommending that if you've been waiting to get the COVID-19 BIVALENT booster, now's the time,” said Hamilton County Health Commissioner Greg Kesterman. “Let's get that vaccine in place before the winter months hit and so that you have added protection.” “Well, certainly we expect COVID to slowly increase probably over the next month because we're all indoors,” said TriHealth Dr. Stephen Blatt. “There's a lot of gatherings and we know it's still at present in the community.”Doctors are also recommending the flu vaccine. Experts are considering it a very good match for the strains that are spreading.
