Nebraska hospitalizations increasing with holiday get-togethers on the way

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Americans are fighting to stay healthy as winter looms, but RSV, the flu and COVID-19 are causing a spike in hospitalizations.

Last week in Nebraska, nearly 1,500 people were admitted to emergency rooms with flu-like symptoms, a 500-person increase from the week prior.

Health officials worry that family gatherings during the holidays could spread illnesses even faster, and hospital beds are already in high demand.

The spike in hospital admittance comes during historic staffing shortages in the health care industry.
