Help us find Michigan’s Best Chili

Michigan's Best Chili 2019

John Gonzalez and Amy Sherman of MLive are searching for Michigan's Best Chili. The announcement was made Sept. 17, 2019. Look for updates at mlive.com/michigansbest.John Gonzalez

Fall is in the air.

Football season is underway.

And kids are back in school.

We can’t think of a better way to celebrate a pure Michigan autumn than announcing our next search is for Michigan’s Best Chili.

That’s right.

Chili.

You know you crave it. It’s the perfect comfort food when you’re out for dinner or maybe at home spending time with family.

Beans or no beans? Topped with cheese, onions, oyster crackers, sour cream or plain?

You tell us. We’re open to all styles and recipes. We’re looking for the best.

Oh, and yes we know that YOU make the best chili. We appreciate all the home cooks who make chili for the annual neighborhood party or the local chili cook-off. Hold tight. We’ll get to you soon.

NOMINATE

We’re looking for local restaurants, bars or venues that keep chili on its regular menu or at least in the fall/winter months. As always, we’re looking for mom and pop or independent restaurants or destinations. No chains, please. (Michigan-based chains are fine.)

Use the form below and nominate your favorites.

UPDATE II: Our nominations form was having some technical issues the last couple days, but it seems to be back. Please accept our apologies. Feel free to email your nominations. Please add “Best Chili Nomination” in the subject field. Be detailed in describing what makes this the best chili. Be sure to include the name of the restaurant, as well as city and address.

Our email addresses:

John Gonzalez is at gonzo@mlive.com.

Amy Sherman is at asherma2@mlive.com.

The deadline for nominations has been extended. It is now 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019.

After we have our nominees we’ll post our regional polls.

The top vote-getter in each region is guaranteed a visit by our Michigan’s Best team of Amy Sherman and John Gonzalez. In addition, we’ll add in as many other spots as our schedule allows based on history, reputation, location, and passionate pleas from our readers.
