Natural Ways To Treat Sore Throat, Expert Explains

Sore throats are a common condition, especially with changing seasons. With the resurgence of Covid-19 instances, many people report persistent symptoms like sore throat, cold, and cough. Antibiotics are commonly used to treat sore throats, but there are natural ways suggested in ayurveda which can treat your sore throat. 

Dr Ganesh Chaudhary, an Ayurvedic expert, recommended a few Ayurvedic therapies to assist you to recover your sore throat successfully.

Honey

Honey is a classic home cure for a sore throat, whether blended with turmeric and ginger juice or taken on its own. Honey is categorised as a demulcent (relieves inflammation), expectorant (aids in mucus clearance), nutritive (nourishing), and antibacterial, to name a few of its properties which prevent bacterial infections. It is a good wound healer, thus it may aid in the healing of sore throats. It has also been shown to be more effective than typical cough suppressants at relieving overnight coughs.

Gargling With Salt And Turmeric Water

Gargling with warm salt-turmeric water relieves sore throats and decreases secretions. It can also kill a number of microorganisms that harm our throats. Turmeric, which is high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory qualities, and expectorant characteristics, is one of the greatest remedies for sore throat. Similarly, gargling with Triphala decoction decreases inflammation and provides relief from sore throat.

Tulsi(Basil)

Tulsi leaves boost an individual's capacity to fight off common colds and coughs. It increases antibody production, avoiding the beginning of infections. It contains cough-relieving effects and aids in the removal of sticky mucus from the airways.

Lavang(Cloves)

Cloves relieve throat pain and aid in the removal of mucus from the body. They are well-known as one of the most effective expectorants for clearing respiratory passage. Chewing cloves is the best way to use them. Keep a few cloves between your teeth and cheeks and bite them to release the oils that can heal your sore throat. 

Yashtimadhu (Liquorice root) 

Ayurvedic medicine recommends Yashtimadhu for sore throat. Yashtimadhu is an excellent expectorant with antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects that helps clear mucus from the throat and relieves sore throat. Yashtimadhu can be used to prepare herbal tea or as a decoction gargle for sore throats.

Ginger

Ayurvedic practitioners see ginger as the best root. Gingerols, which are found in ginger, have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial qualities that help clear throat infections and relieve cough and cold symptoms. Ginger juice blended with honey or a cup of ginger tea might help soothe a sore throat.

Above all remedies, Kofol Gargle is a herbal, non-alcoholic gargle that relieves pain and congestion quickly and completely. It is a great combination of natural substances such as Yashtimadhu, Tulsi, Pudina, Bibhitaki, Shunthi, and many more that have outstanding antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, liquefy mucus, and reduce irritation and scratchy feelings in the throat.
