PARTS OF THE METRO RIGHT NOW. IT IS. YES. IT’S BEEN FALLING IN PARTS OF SOUTHERN IOWA FOR A FEW HOURS. SEVERAL HOURS, I GUESS, AT THIS POINT HERE THIS EVENING. LOOK AT THIS SWATH OF SNOW STRETCHING ACROSS THE STATE. BASICALLY, THE SOUTHEASTERN HALF OF IOWA IS GETTING SOME SNOWFALL HERE AT THIS HOUR. JUST KIND OF LIGHT TO MODERATE. THERE ARE A FEW BANDS HERE AND THERE AND IT IS ADDING UP AND IT STARTED TO ACCUMULATE ON SOME OF THE ROADS, ESPECIALLY SOME OF THOSE UNTREATED RURAL HIGHWAYS DOWN IN SOUTHERN IOWA. A LOT OF TIME PROBABLY MOST LIKELY YOUR COUNTY ROADS ARE GETTING A LITTLE BIT SNOWY DOWN THERE, BUT THERE IS SOME PINK, SOME 100% COVERAGE FOR MY 35. BASICALLY FROM THE METRO POINT SOUTHWARD INTO SOUTHERN IOWA, PARTS OF HIGHWAY 34, HIGHWAY TWO AND ELSEWHERE ACROSS AT LEAST THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE STATE. A LITTLE BIT SLICK ROADS OUTSIDE AS WE HEAD INTO SATURDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW IS GOING TO CONTINUE ACROSS THIS PART OF THE STATE THROUGH AT LEAST THE NEXT FEW HOURS. I THINK THE MIDDLE OF IOWA, WE START TO TAPER THAT OFF HERE AFTER MIDNIGHT AND THEN THE LAST FEW FLAKES WILL BE LINGERING AROUND SUNRISE INTO EASTERN IOWA. SO I THINK BY TOMORROW MORNING SHOULD BE DONE WITH IT. MOST OF US WILL JUST BE WAKING UP WITH NOT ANY MORE FALLING FLAKES, BUT PROBABLY A LITTLE BIT OF SOME FOG IN TERMS OF A MOUSE. WE’VE ALREADY HAD A COUPLE OF MEASUREMENTS, ONE DOWN IN CENTERVILLE OF AN INCH AND A HALF, ONE DOWN IN MURRAY, WEST OF OSHAWA, ABOUT AN INCH. SO FAR. AND ACTUALLY THOSE WERE A FEW HOURS AGO. SO I THINK THOSE ARE NUMBERS ARE PROBABLY HIGHER THAN THAT. THINK A GOOD 1 TO 3 INCHES ACROSS SOUTH CENTRAL AND THEN INTO EASTERN IOWA. BY TOMORROW MORNING WILL BE A PRETTY GOOD BET. SO YOU’RE HEADED OUT EARLY TOMORROW, CHURCH AND SO ON. JUST BE CAREFUL. TAKE IT SLOW. MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIT SLICK OUT THERE WITH THAT FRESH SNOW, BUT SHOULD BE MAJOR, MAJOR PROBLEMS. WINDS ARE GOING TO STAY LIGHT HERE TONIGHT AND INTO TOMORROW. THEN THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS, THERE’LL BE A LITTLE BIT OF THAT FOG WILL START TO BREAK UP. THAT FOG AT LEAST BREAK UP SOME OF THE CLOUDS, THEN INTO THE AFTERNOON, KIND OF LIKE TODAY. I MEAN, IT’S NOT GOING TO BE THE SUNNIEST TYPE OF DAY TOMORROW, BUT THERE WON’T BE ANY FALLING SNOW. YOUR HIGHS TOMORROW AFTERNOON RANGING FROM THE LOW TWENTIES UP IN NORTHERN IOWA TO LOW THIRTIES AS YOU HEAD INTO SOUTH EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE, LITTLE COOLER THAN TODAY, TOMORROW, THEN MONDAY SHOULD BE SIMILAR. STILL SOME CLOUDS OUT AND ABOUT TO START OFF THE WORKWEEK, KIND OF THAT GRAY TYPE OF TYPE. WINTER DAY. TUESDAY, SIMILAR TEMPERATURES BOTH TOMORROW, BOTH MONDAY AND TUESDAY WILL BE PRETTY AVERAGE. UPPER TWENTIES AND LOWER THIRTIES. THAT’S PRETTY MUCH THE NORM FOR MID-JANUARY. ONLY THING INTERESTING WEATHER WISE NEXT WEEK COMES UP AS WE HEAD TOWARDS WEDNESDAY. THERE’S GOING TO BE A BIGGER WEATHER SYSTEM MOVE THROUGH THE NATION’S MID SECTION. RIGHT NOW, THOUGH, IT LOOKS LIKE THE BULK OF IT’S GOING TO BE TO THE SOUTH AND EAST OF US. SO I THINK THERE’S A CHANCE SOUTH EASTERN IOWA, YOU MAY BE GET SOME SNOW ON WEDNESDAY, BUT I DON’T THINK EVERY BODY IS GOING TO BE PART OF THIS, AT LEAST JUST YET. DOESN’T LOOK LIKE A HUGE DEAL, BUT WE’RE GOING TO WATCH THE TRENDS ON THE TRACK OF THAT THING OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. FIRST, THE SNOWFLAKES THAT WE’VE GOT AROUND TONIGHT, ESPECIALLY SOUTH AND EAST THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS, OTHERWISE LOW OF 22 FOLKS, YOU DON’T HAVE SNOW. YOU’LL PROBABLY HAVE SOME FOG TOMORROW MORNING AND SOME LINGERING CLOUDS THE REST OF THE DAY, 27 FOR THE AFTERNOON HIGH. AND THEN IT’S A LOT OF UPPER TWENTIES AND LOWER THIRTIES FOR TEMPERATURES INTO NEXT WEEK. NO MAJOR SYSTEMS THAT ONE WEDNESDAY OBVIOUSLY DOES LOOK LIKE IT’S GOING TO BE A DIRECT HIT JUST YET, JUST SOME NUISANCE TYPE O

Snow continues across parts of Iowa this evening as a system travels by south of the state. This snow will keep falling in south-central, then eastern Iowa through the night, wrapping up in southeast Iowa tomorrow morning. Accumulations will be around 1-3" in most spots. The rest of the state will get another batch of fog as winds remain light out of the northwest overnight. Temperatures will settle into the low 20s by Sunday morning. The combination of those colder temps and fresh snow will likely mean some slippery spots early Sunday. Clouds will decrease somewhat through Sunday, but don't expect much sunshine. High temps will only reach the upper 20s. Next work week will begin on a quiet, average January note. Both Monday and Tuesday look to be partly/mostly cloudy with temperatures around freezing. Wednesday brings another weather system, but right now it looks like that system will track through the Ohio river valley -- a little too far southeast to affect Iowa much. For now, just a slight chance of snow is possible Wednesday in the southeast part of the state.
