Seattle police investigators looking into a homicide that took place in the South Lake Union neighborhood Monday evening.
According to police, the homicide occurred in an apartment building at 424 Minor Ave North around 5:30 p.m.
According to Interim Police Chief Adrian Diaz, the victim is an woman in her 50's and the preliminary investigation leads them to believe she died as a result of blunt force trauma.
“It did not appear to be anything with a firearm," Diaz said. "It appears to be more of a blunt force trauma but we're still working through that part of the investigation.”
Police said that arriving officers detained a man at the scene and are currently investigating his involvement in the woman's death. Diaz said it appears to be a deadly case of domestic violence.
“It's still preliminary in the investigation but right now it appears that they did know each other, but we just don't know the extent of how they knew each other,” the chief said.
The facility is run by DESC and the chief said officers have been called to the location before. Many of the calls are related to people in mental crisis.
“Glad that officers were able to take somebody into custody and hopefully we'll have closure to this case,” Diaz said.
This is the first homicide in Seattle in 2023.
