Nashville police ID man fatally shot in J.C. Napier Homes apartment

Nashville police identified the man who died after being shot inside an apartment at the J.C. Napier Homes complex as 22-year-old Xavier Javon Taylor of Decatur Street.

The shooting happened just after midnight Friday, according to a news release by the Metro Nashville Police Department. Taylor was identified through his fingerprints.

Officers found the door of an apartment in the 100 block of Lafayette Street partially open and discovered Taylor wounded on the living room couch. They rendered aid until Taylor was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died, MNPD said.

Police are pursuing active leads, but no arrests have been made in Taylor's death. The shooting marks the city's 14th homicide of the year.
