Quandre Diggs saves Seattle’s season… for now

Seattle Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs was selected by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round of the 2015 draft out of Texas, and he played for Detroit from 2015 through October, 2019, when the Matt Patricia-led Lions traded him to Seattle for a 2020 fifth-round pick.

That was a mistake, and on Sunday, Diggs made his old team pay.

With 8:33 left in overtime of Seattle’s crucial game against the Los Angeles Rams, Diggs came out of nowhere to intercept Baker Mayfield’s deep helium throw to Van Jefferson.

The Seahawks then drove to the Los Angeles 14-yard line, at which point kicker Jason Myers — who had doinked a 46-yard field goal attempt at the end of regulation — booted the game-winning 32-yarder with 4:38 left in the fifth quarter.

With Seattle’s win, the Lions are out of playoff contention, no matter what happens Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers. If the Packers win, the Seahawks are out of the playoffs, and Green Bay takes the NFC’s seven-seed. If the Lions win, the Seahawks will take that spot.
