Girl Scout Cookies are back: Find your local cookie seller and enjoy a new flavor

It's the most wonderful time of year again — you got it, Girl Scout Cookies are back. In addition to the return of the beloved desserts, Girl Scouts across the nation are introducing the new 2023 cookie, Raspberry Rally, available now until March 5.

According to local Girl Scout junior Layla Pontruff, the new addition is "like a thin mint; the inside has a raspberry filling, with an (outside) like a thin mint," The new cookie, along with crowd favorites such as Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties/ Tagalongs and more, are available to purchase from local Girl Scouts like Pontruff each weekend at select Amarilllo locations.

"My favorite part of selling cookies is getting to meet new people and getting to know their favorite cookies," Pontruff said. "When you first meet someone, you may not know what their favorites are, but once you see them again, you know what they like and what they might want."

According to Girl Scouts of the Texas Oklahoma Plains (GSTOP), these annual cookie sales teach young women like Pontruff life skills such as goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. In addition to this, the troops often offer a goal in the form of prizes leading up to a "DIVA Club Trip" for cookie sales met. GSTOP offers the DIVA Club to Girl Scouts in the area who meet the goal of selling 1,650 packages.

Pontruff said she is already at the halfway mark toward her overall goal this year of $2,300. Pontruff said that she hopes to raise enough to reach her goals of an Oculus VR Headset and participate in a DIVA Trip this upcoming April to Fossil Rim and Glen Lake Camp.

The Girl Scout said that although she loves meeting new people and selling cookies, she is sometimes discouraged by people's reactions to her.

"I'm halfway to my goal so far, and I'm very happy about that, but I want more people to support me in what I do," Pontruff said. "Sometimes people ignore me, or sometimes they say they will come back after they're done shopping, and then they ignore me. I'd like people to keep their word and not lie to me or just tell me 'no thank you'; that's kinder than ignoring or avoiding me. It's okay to say no."

To help Pontruff reach her goal, you can purchase a box of cookies from her every other Saturday or Sunday at the Arden Road Walmart, where she will be set up and making sales with her mother's supervision.

Each box of cookies costs $5, or $6 for gluten-free options. Pontruff said that she accepts all forms of payment: cash, debit, credit and cash app.

Pontruff's troop members are also available selling cookies at the same location throughout the weekend. Individuals can also find other Girl Scouts troops outside area Walmart locations selling cookies to meet their goals.
