Tornado watches ended across Middle Tennessee, but another round of potentially severe storms is expected Tuesday evening and overnight, the forecast showed.

A third and final round of storms are expected from roughly 10 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday. The greatest risk for severe storms is in the southeastern part of the region, including cities like Murfreesboro and Columbia, NWS Nashville said.

"Some of these storms could be severe with damaging winds, hail, minor flooding and possibly an isolated tornado," NWS Nashville said on Twitter just before 7 p.m.

Most of the region will see between 1-2 inches of rain total from the storms, but some may get up to 3-4 inches, NWS said.

On Monday night, storms dropped pea-sized hail and packed gusty winds across the region, knocking out power to several thousand at one point. Tuesday morning's storms stretched widely across the South, triggering severe thunderstorm warnings across the region and tornado warnings in Kentucky.

Cooler weather will move in starting Wednesday, with a return to seasonable temperatures later in the week.

NWS urges weather awareness

The National Weather Service recommends having multiple ways to get weather updates.

As always, it's important to have multiple ways to get weather alerts, including cell phone push alerts from local media and weather apps; social media updates; local news coverage; and NOAA weather radios.

NWS Nashville meteorologist Sam Herron said that its weather transmitter, which powers alerts for Middle Tennessee via NOAA weather radios, is currently offline. That means it's important to have other ways to get alerts and updates. Experts are scheduled to work on the transmitter Wednesday, Herron said.

How to prepare for severe weather in TN:Safe rooms, weather alerts, supplies

NWS recommends having an emergency kit you can quickly grab in case of an emergency. It should include essential supplies like food, water, flashlights, batteries, medicine, extra clothing and shoes, toiletries and solar-powered chargers for electronic devices.

"If you get separated from family, make sure you have a place to meet or have an out-of-town contact to let know you are OK," the NWS said.
