Four months after Hurricane Ian walloped Southwest Florida, efforts for cleaning up debris and taking steps to return to "normal" continue in various ways.

When it comes to the canals on Fort Myers Beach, it is more like baby steps.

Tons of debris, natural and man-made, were deposited into the canals on the island on Sept. 28 when Category 4 Ian brought `150 mph winds and a storm surge that exceeded 15 feet in some places on Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel Island and Pine Island.

On Feb. 1 a worker assigned to clean-up duty performed the painstakingly tedious task of scooping out what can now best be referred to as garbage from one canal located off Sterling Avenue (mid-island).
