BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — As of Tuesday, Feb. 1, the Louisiana Department of Health is reporting a backlog of COVID-19 cases that are older than two weeks.

In a COVID-19 update that was announced online, LDH says over 4,500 cases of COVID-19 are backlogged. Statistics indicate that 35% of those cases are from East Baton Rouge Parish and 14% come from the Greater New Orleans area.

A total of 10,232 new COVID cases have been submitted to the state ranging from Monday, Jan. 23 until Sunday, Jan. 29.

Of these newly reported cases, the majority are people ages 5-17 (18%) and 18-29 (15%). On average, 314 hospitalizations have been reported, according to LDH.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone ages six months and older be vaccinated and get the booster shot as soon as possible.
