International Space Station Highlights 2022

The 2022 Annual Highlights of Results from the International Space Station is now available

This new edition contains bibliometric analyses, a list of all the publications documented in fiscal year 2022, and synopses of the most recent and recognized scientific findings from investigations conducted onboard the space station. These investigations are sponsored by NASA and all international partners — Canadian Space Agency (CSA), ESA (European Space Agency), Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and the State Space Corporation ROSCOSMOS (ROSCOSMOS) – for the advancement of science, technology, and education. Insights gained from these new peer-reviewed publications promote the commercialization of space and benefit humankind.

A feature story about the 2022 Annual Highlights of Results is available in English and Spanish.

Over 3,500 scientific publications have been collected from more than 6,000 investigators during the life of the space station. Between Oct. 1, 2021 and Sept. 30, 2022, more than 400 publications were reported, most of them undergoing rigorous scientific review before release and dissemination. An in-depth analysis of top-quality research shows that these publications have been above national and global standards for research impact since 2010. It is evident that the space station is continuously producing groundbreaking results from which other investigators around the world can benefit to further explore and push boundaries.

Some of the findings presented in this edition include:

The content in the Annual Highlights of Results from the International Space Station has been reviewed and approved by the Program Science Forum, a team of scientists and administrators from the international partnership of space agencies dedicated to planning, improving, and communicating the research operated aboard the space station.
