Turner wins two US university projects worth $158m

The Fort Worth Law and Education Building (Turner Construction)
New York contractor Turner Construction has landed roles at Texas A&M and the University of Fraser Valley in British Columbia, worth a combined total of $158m.

In First Worth, a team of Turner Construction, Dallas’ Carcon and Texas’ Source Building Group will build a 225,000 sq ft law and education facility worth $85m.

The development will be used by the School of Law, the Mays School of Business, the Texas A&M Health Science Centre and Tarleton State University Nursing and Research.

The Fort Worth Law and Education Building will be the first facility built as part of a new multi-phase development for the Texas A&M University System Campus.

Andy Tandon, Turner Construction’s vice president, said: “It is so meaningful that we will maximise opportunities on this project for historically under-utilised businesses and local Forth Worth trade contractors.”

Work on the project is due to begin in 2023 and be completed by 2025.

At the University of Fraser Valley in British Columbia, Turner is working with majority-owned subsidiary Clark Builders to build a mass-timber student housing centre with 398 beds.

Located at the university’s Abbotsford campus, the six-storey project will contain living areas, shared kitchens, study, mixed-use and cultural space.

The accomodation will be built to Passivhaus efficiency standards using modular and pre-fabrication methods.

Amit Patel, Turner Construction’s general manager, said: “It is great to be part of an extremely collaborative process that will result in environmentally friendly housing for students attending the University of Fraser Valley.”

Construction on the project is due to begin in 2023 and be completed by autumn 2024.
