Best New Luxury Hotels Of 2023: The Emory To Debut In London

Following

The storied Maybourne Hotel Group is set to add another luxury game-changer to London’s rarefied five-star hotel scene.

Last week, the group announced the forthcoming debut of The Emory, slated to begin welcoming guests in the city’s Knightsbridge neighborhood at the end of 2023. The opening will mark Maybourne’s fourth hotel in the U.K. capital—joining Claridge’s, The Connaught, and The Berkeley—and its sixth property overall. The Maybourne Beverly Hills and the Maybourne Riviera round out the esteemed collection.

Designed by the late Richard Rogers and Ivan Harbour of architectural firm RSHP, the project is billed as a modern architectural masterpiece, topped with a stunning “sails” structure that soars above the treetops of Hyde Park. The hotel, accessible via a private, understated entrance on Old Barrack Yard, will feature 60 sun-splashed suites spread across nine floors—each of which will showcase the aesthetic of a different top-tier interior designer, including Alexandra Champalimaud, André Fu, Pierre Yves Rochon, Rémi Tessier and Patricia Urquiola—as well as a sprawling penthouse designed by Rigby & Rigby. United by their world-class craftsmanship and exacting attention to detail, the spacious suites will offer guests utmost privacy within a singular showplace of contemporary artistry.

The Emory’s crowning glory: a spectacular rooftop offering unrivaled, 360-degree views of the capital, and open exclusively to hotel guests.

“This is our first new London property in 50 years, and we believe it will be a truly groundbreaking new addition to our distinguished hotel family,” said Gianluca Muzzi, Maybourne Hotel Group CEO, in a press release. “We plan to bring the inspiration and creative energy that have made our other hotels so notable, whilst also making The Emory a world-class hub of art and culture. This opening further cements our vision and commitment to growing Maybourne Hotel Group, and heralds a bold new future for the company.”

The hotels progressive spirit will also inform its culinary agenda, with renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten bringing his acclaimed ABC concept of fresh, local cuisine across the pond from New York to London for the first time. Beneath ground, a show-stopping wellness space for hotel guests will encompass four floors and feature a 72-foot pool.

Innovations large and small have become a Maybourne Hotel Group hallmark. The Berkeley—whose general manager, acclaimed hotelier Knut Wylde, will also serve as GM of The Emory—recently introduced Prêt-à-Portea, an inspired take on afternoon tea, celebrating designers ranging from Dolce & Gabbana to Jean Paul Gaultier. Among the winter-themed sartorial sweets: a camel coat by Prada reborn as an intricately piped, cocoa-rich biscuit, and a Dolce & Gabbana’s bold coat and hat pairing reimagined in checkered sponge cake wrapped in rainbow-hued marzipan.
