Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh has called upon religious leaders of the State to foster brotherhood and harmony among the various religious communities of Manipur.
Heikham Dingo Singh was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a Buddhist monastery/temple "Tamang Buddhist Monastery" as well as the kicking off of Sonam Lhochar festival at AR Colony, Kanglatongbi today.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister zeroed in on the importance of safeguarding one's culture and identity as these act as signifiers that represent a community in the global stage.
Stating that all religions carry messages of peace and harmony, he called upon the people to spread the message of peace in Manipur, which is akin to a 'mini-India' where people of various religious backgrounds live together. He also called upon the Buddhists to join the journey of development led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his vision of "Sab Ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas, Sab Ka Vishwas" and Chief Minister N Biren Singh's effort to unite the hill-valley brethren as well as all different communities.
A multitude of song and dance performances marked the highlight of the function.
The function was attended by many Buddhist leaders as well as local elders.
