STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- If you want to sit in the middle of an AMC movie house, with a front-and-center view of all the big-screen action, you’re going to have to cough up some extra cash. The major movie chain has announced a new tiered pricing system that provides moviegoers with multiple seating options to meet their viewing preferences.
“Sightline at AMC more closely aligns AMC’s seat pricing approach to that of many other entertainment venues, offering experience-based pricing and another way for moviegoers to find value at the movies,” said Eliot Hamlisch, AMC’s chief marketing officer, in a press release.
The new system, aptly named “Sightline,” allows moviegoers to purchase tickets in three different sections: Standard Sightline seats are the most common in auditoriums and are available for the traditional cost of a ticket; Value Sightline seats are primarily in the front row of the auditorium and are available at a lower price than Standard Sightline seats; and Preferred Sightline seats are typically in the middle of the auditorium and cost slightly more than Standard Sightline seats.
According to the press release, AMC’s most loyal moviegoers, who are members of the chain’s $25-per-month A-List club, will have the Preferred Sightline premium waived for all reservations.
“Sightline at AMC is applied to all showtimes that begin after 4 p.m. at participating locations and is not available on Discount Tuesday at AMC,” the company explained. “Sightline at AMC has launched in select markets, and is expected to continue expanding to AMC and AMC DINE-IN locations by the end of 2023.”
The ticket pricing initiative has not yet hit the AMC location at the Staten Island Mall in New Springville, but the company noted that the service will continue to expand to all theaters by the end of 2023.
“While every seat at AMC delivers an amazing moviegoing experience, we know there are some moviegoers who prioritize their specific seat and others who prioritize value moviegoing,” Hamlisch’s statement concluded. “Sightline at AMC accommodates both sentiments to help ensure that our guests have more control over their experience, so that every trip to an AMC is a great one.”
