Liberty Canyon Road in Agoura Hills was reopened after more than two hours Saturday when a hand grenade inside a vehicle was determined not to contain explosives.

The device was observed during a traffic stop around 2 p.m. on Liberty Canyon Road south of Agoura Road, Sgt. C. Soberlund of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station told City News Service. The road was reopened about 4:30 p.m.

The device was spotted when a deputy was searching the vehicle, Soberlund said.

The sheriff's bomb squad examined the device and determined it was an inert grenade, which looked like a hand grenade but did not contain explosives, he said.

The man driving the vehicle was arrested, Soberlund said. The man's name and the reason for his vehicle search were not disclosed while the investigation continued, and neither were the charges he would face.
