Eugine Yafele, Chief Executive of University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, has been appointed a Visiting Professor for the College of Health, Science and Society at UWE Bristol.

Eugine said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as Visiting Professor at UWE Bristol. This new role reflects the growing importance of integrated working across our health and education partners in the region. The education and development of our staff is key to the successful future of our health organisations, and I look forward to being involved in a whole range of research and development initiatives, including the development of the new Integrated Care Academy.”

Professor Marc Griffiths, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean for the College of Health, Science and Society, said: “As a Visiting Professor, Eugine will bring his experience and expertise from previous senior positions to help grow and develop new and innovative types of professionals, at all levels, along with creating opportunities for new research projects and innovative approaches towards service redesign and evaluation. University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust will also be a founding member of the new Integrated Care Academy that is being developed at UWE Bristol.”

Eugine joined University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust from Dorset HealthCare University Foundation Trust, where he led the Trust to achieve a Care Quality Commission rating of Outstanding in his first year as chief executive and, under his leadership, saw the Trust ranked amongst the top four in the annual staff survey for three consecutive years – with the best scores nationally for staff engagement and empowerment.

A nurse by background, Eugine has a wealth of experience across senior clinical and operational roles in the private sector and in acute and mental health organisations in the NHS. He is a Board member of NHS Employers Policy Board and Chair of NHS England and NHS Improvement South West Regional People Board. He is also currently the Senior Responsible Officer for the Out of Hospital Transformation programme, Urgent and Emergency Care Board and has led and supported elective recovery for the Dorset Integrated Care System.
