Rock 'n' Roll Arizona marathon 2024: What runners, motorists and fans need to know

The Rock 'n' Roll Arizona running series returns to metro Phoenix Jan. 13-14, 2024, bringing thousands of walkers, joggers and runners to the streets over the weekend for a half marathon, 10K and 5K runs.

Rock 'n' Roll Arizona will kick off at the Mill Avenue Bridge on Saturday with a 5K race that begins at 8 a.m. at Tempe Beach Park.

Sunday brings the half-marathon and 10K, which start at Mill Avenue and Third Street in Tempe.

The race routes will wind through Tempe, Phoenix and Scottsdale, and local musicians will keep everyone entertained along the way.

The time limits for the races are as follows:

  • Half-marathon: Four hours.

  • 10K: Two hours.

  • 5K: One hour.

How to register for Rock 'n' Roll Arizona 2024

Online registration is closed. Interested runners can sign up at the Health & Fitness Expo Jan. 12-13 at the Phoenix Convention Center.

Registration will be in Halls F-G of the South Building from noon-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13.

Registration prices are as follows:

  • 5K: $69.

  • 10K: $119.

  • Half-marathon: $129.

Where does the Arizona rock 'n' roll marathon start?

The start line for the 10K and half-marathon is at Mill Avenue and Third Street in Tempe. The 5K race starts at Tempe Beach Park.

When the race starts, participants will be released in waves depending on their assigned corrals.

The finish line for the 10K and half-marathon is on Rio Salado Parkway near Tempe Beach Park. The 5K race will end at Tempe Beach Park.

Rock 'n' Roll Arizona 2024 road closures

Numerous street closures along the race courses will last from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. After the final participant passes the finish line, streets will start reopening on a rolling basis.

Rio Salado Parkway between Ash and Mill avenues will be closed in both directions, and the southbound Mill Avenue bridge will be closed at Washington Street, from 7 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday.

Rock 'n' Roll Arizona parking

For the 5K, participants can park for free at Sun Devil Football Stadium, 500 E. Veterans Way, Tempe. The drop-off location is Fifth Street and Farmer Avenue.

For the half-marathon and 10K, runners can park for free at ASU Lot 59. From the Loop 202, take the exit for Scottsdale Road/Rural Road and head south. Turn right on Rio Salado Parkway; Lot 59 is on the southwest corner of Rio Salado Parkway and Packard Drive.

Covered parking is available in ASU garages for $16 per day.

After the race

Racers can meet up with family and friends at the Finish Line Festival on Sunday. Organizers advise planning a meeting point, as the area will be crowded.

The family reunion area at Tempe Beach Park will have signs next to the stage and beer garden, and participants can meet their guests at the sign for the first letter of their name.

Main stage co-opener Fleetwood Mac cover band Twisted Gypsy will take the stage at 8:30 a.m. and co-opener Betamaxx will perform a tribute to 80s music at 10:15 a.m.
