Boston is going green this weekend at the annual parade in Southie isn’t the only fun to be had in town. Here’s a handful of events:
FRIDAY
Of course, it wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day without a plate of corned beef and cabbage. Can’t cook? Head to the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton, there you will be greeted by Irish dancing and music, and vendors delivering Irish goods. Corned beef and cabbage will be served all day.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Admission is $20, not including food and beverage.
There will be many pub crawls in Boston the entire weekend. If you’re out of work Friday afternoon, head on out to Landsdowne Street for what’s dubbed as the city’s largest organized bar-hopping event for the holiday.
The pub crawl starts at 1 p.m. at Game On and will make its way to a handful of other nearby bars. It runs through the day and night until 2 a.m. Saturday, so take it easy.
SATURDAY
Pub crawls may be all the talk, but what about a pup crawl? Polkadog Bakery in Chestnut Hill will make sure dogs feel that Irish love, too.
The pet supply store will be hosting its annual holiday pup crawl from 12 to 2 p.m., when pooches and their human companions will get to roam around The Street open-air shopping center. Pup cups with whipped cream and vanilla custard, photo opportunities and more are all part of the day.
SUNDAY
It will be a busy day in South Boston filled with holiday spirit.
Burn off some calories from your leftover corned beef sandwiches by running in the St. Patrick’s Day road race which begins on West Sixth Street at 11 a.m.
The parade follows the race, kicking off at 1 p.m.
Boston officials are encouraging people attending the events to either walk, bike or take public transit. Parking restrictions will be in place on streets along the parade and race routes.
For the parade, ticketing and towing may begin as early as 5 a.m. For the race, all vehicles need to be removed before 9 a.m. Check the city website for the complete traffic advisory.
