The El Dorado boys soccer team has been on a mission all season to make a statement in District 1-6A.

On Friday at Franklin High School, the Aztecs made school history with their 2-0 win against the Cougars. With the win, El Dorado secured the No. 2 seed out of the district and a home game in the bi-distict round, both firsts for the program according to school officials.

"It's a great feeling for our kids and they earned it," fifth-year Aztecs coach Oswaldo Saucedo said. "Our kids battled all season long, keep working hard and kept improving."

The Aztecs moved back up to Class 6A this season after the latest UIL realignment after competing in Class 5A.

"The kids stepped up to the challenge," Saucedo said. "To get where we are in a tough district means a lot."

After a scoreless first half on Friday, El Dorado took control of the match in the first 10 minutes of the second half, getting goals from Garek Felix and Alex Orquiz to gain momentum in the second half.

"We've had good chemistry this season," said the junior Felix. "We have a veteran team and we came together and did some great things. We're entering the playoffs with lots of momentum and the season isn't over yet, we still have lots we want to accomplish."

The Aztecs have won seven straight matches and Friday's win avenged an earlier season loss to Franklin in district play.

"We'll have to step up in the playoffs, but I am very confident in our team," Felix said. "Moving to Class 6A was and there were lot of adjustments to be made, but our team showed up and played hard all the time."

Added Pierce: "It's something you believe in and it's real once you get there. We worked hard to get to this point. We put in a lot of time, we analyzed things and we fix some things to end the season the way we did."
