The only certified milk bank, which helps bridge the gap for women who cannot produce enough breast milk to feed their babies, is struggling to keep up with demand. Allie Benzshawel, a resident of Boca Raton, started donating when her daughter was a month old and has since donated over 14,000 ounces of breast milk. "My first donation was 100 ounces, and then a month after that, I had a few hundred ounces. After that, I realized I could donate over a couple of thousand ounces and be fine," she said.Although sister milk banks across the country have been helping to meet the demand, the Mothers' Milk Bank of Florida needs more Florida mothers like Benzshawel to donate.
